STATEMENT
The most recent body of work builds on concepts I have been working with for several years and includes a colorful series of dot, stripe, spiral and floral paintings. On some level, the work is about excess: more detail, more to see, more time, more decorative, more beautiful, more seductive. Formally, the excess provides visual complexity while conceptually touching on issues of decoration, beautification, indulgence and whimsy. I have a desire to make things pretty, tidy and arranged. I create abstract spaces for the viewer to enter and explore and, ultimately, to return to find new areas of interest, new elements and color combinations not noticed upon first inspection.

We all have - or are in search of - a passion. After all, what is life without drama and love and loss and mania and lipstick and lace, kisses and laughs. We search for those activities in our lives that transport us to another reality. Music does this for many, allowing us to relive a happy time and place. Whether it's gardening, reading, collecting, football or shopping; engaging in these activities allows us to let go of the moment and get lost in a reality where we are unconscious of ourselves, or "unself-conscious." We don't think of food or fashion or money or the job we have to return to the following day. That's where I am when I am painting and creating. And that's what drives the images I create. I aim to create spaces for you to explore and achieve the same unself-consciousness I experience while I make them. Together we can commune in a loss of self and delight in that which I believe life is about: love and happiness. Utopian? Yes. Naive? Yes. Beautiful and sexy and fun? Yes. I invite you to be utterly utopian and naive and beautiful and sexy and fun, just for awhile - or as long as you want.
